organizations all over the world are trying to catch peoples attention and teach them about stress and what it does to our health. Many do not even acknowledge that is has anything to do with illness and misinterpret it, but stress is the modern day plague. It affects all of us. Regular exercise, spending time outdoors, sports, good eating habits – this is all a part of a healthy regimen that will reduce the effect stress has on people. But, there is another very important part of this regimen – being hydrated.

This is becoming a real problem nowadays and even if all of us know that drinking water is important we can honestly say that we drink less than recommended. Force yourself to drink water and remind it to the people around you every hour. If you have a water cooler at home or in the office – take advantage of it to the full extent. Essential hydration for actors

Over the past year, the importance of keeping hydrated as part of maintaining a healthy life style and water coolers being provided at work has been widely publicised. With over two thirds of the body made up of water, drinking enough is essential for maintaining energy levels and a sense of wellbeing.
One of our past employees, Sophie Carmichael, sadly left us to pursue an acting career. Imminently embarking on a touring production of Macbeth, Sophie tells us why water coolers are a must in the rehearsal room.
“When you’re rehearsing, you’re pushing your body to limits that you might not even realise, and sometimes are much more physical than is immediately recognisable. When in character, it’s so easy to become completely absorbed in what you’re doing and not stop for a drink”, she says. “It’s so important to keep on drinking from a bottle, and even better if the company provides water coolers to act as a reminder to take care of yourself by being hydrated. I try and drink every time I think about it or look at the cooler”. She went on to say, “It’s not just your body but your voice which needs to keep cool and refreshed. Projecting lines can take a toll on your throat, and one of the easiest ways to do this is by, again, drinking enough water. It’s basic things which keep you healthy all the way through rehearsals and into a run, which can last for months”.
So, all you budding superstars, start with the basics by looking after your body and your voice. Maybe it’ll be your name that’s next up in lights!

Make your own Rose or Orange Blossom Water

Cooking with unusual ingredients can be very rewarding, and we all love to impress our guests with unusual recipes and flavours. Using rose water and orange blossom water is a way of doing just this, with their unique taste, but purchasing these rare treats can be expensive. We at The Water Delivery Company believe in home made goodness at every opportunity, so why not try making your own?
You will need:
Distilled water- the water from any of our water coolers can be distilled, and with a little help from our chums at Wikipedia they’ll let us know how.
Rose petals/orange blossom.

How to go about making your delicious water:
Pick your petals early in the morning, ideally those which have been grown completely organically.
Rinse the petals carefully in cold water, taking care to remove all dirt and any pesky insects.
Having crushed the petals or blossom with a mortar and pestle, and left them to rest for a few hours, place them in a jar with some distilled water- don’t go overboard with the water as you can always add more later.
Leave the jar, with the lid on, in the sun for a couple of weeks, and check the scent. If it is too weak, continue to leave in the sun for another week or so.
Experiment with the quantities of water and petals to see what works for your water, and voila, you will be known as a culinary genius. Good luck and happy cooking!

Make your own water cooler ice rink

‘Tis the season to be jolly, to bring glad tidings, to enjoy the wonderful variety of wintery wonderlands that are cropping up all over the capital at this festive time. Among the Christmassy treats are numerous ice rinks, complete with lovely fairy lights and often mulled wine/mince pie stands, just to really get you in the mood. But if you a) can’t bear the thought of nursing a severely bruised bottom for the weeks leading up to Chistmas, b) Aren’t sure about skating around in the freezing weather, probably in medium to heavy drizzle, and pretending to have the time of your life or c) just can’t be bothered, how about make your very own office ice rink from water from your water cooler? Of course, we do not condone “wastage” of our delicious spring water, however in the name of fun/Christmas sprit, I think we can let this one slide. Follow these very simple, Blue Peter-like steps to a decoration that will bring you hours of guaranteed fun, and definitely make you a mega hit with the workmates.
1) Take bowl
2) Fill with water from the cooler
3) Place bowl in freezer for 24 hours
4) Bring in Lego/Playmobil figures to skate around your home made ice rink.
5) If ice begins to melt, place back in freezer (minus toys) until hardened.
6) Can be refrozen as often as desired.
7) For added magic, decorate with fairy lights, tinsel, and play music in close vicinity of the rink, as though providing entertainment for the skaters.
Et, voila. Your very own winter wonderland. Merry Christmas!

Water coolers will be drained fast at Rio 2016

After an emotional wait and announcement, the population of Rio de Janeiro are celebrating winning the Olympic for 2016. The city’s preparations will be starting shortly, working on improving security and safety around Brazil’s most vibrant city, and also beginning a massive clear up operation of the lakes and sea around the coast, which will be the sites for the water sports events during the Games.
All this talk of water got us thinking about the athletes themselves, and how much water they will be drinking. Tap water being unsuitable for consumption in most areas of the massive country, water coolers will be working their hardest to quench the thirst of the competitors. With pre and re hydration necessary to maintain a healthy blood volume and therefore a safe level of cardio activity in the body, the athlete must drink a minimum of two cups before training, and then a small amount every fifteen minutes during their work out. Complete recovery, or suitable rehydration can be measured over the following days; an elevated heart rate first thing in the morning indicates dehydration. So, with hundreds of athletes needing precious water to keep them going for the two Olympic weeks, they’ll need a good stock of coolers and bottles to keep them in peforming to the best of their ability. We’ll be the first to let you know if our water coolers are chosen to flown over to Rio!

London weather great for water coolers, not so much for frogs

As London’s temperatures rise as a result of global warming, and our barbeque summer dreams disappear (but then reappear in the middle of October when it gets lovely and warm again), water coolers are back in action and rehydrating workers and residents all over the city. Even though we’re glad to have the hot weather returning, it’s not such good news for the city’s wildlife population. Research conducted by the London Climate Change Partnership predicts that the numbers of creepy crawlies such as various winged insects and spiders could rocket, whilst the common frog and the kingfisher could virtually disappear in a matter of years. Not good news for any of us. Unfortunately it’s tricky to know how long the extinction of these species may take, and the likelihood of flooding, overheating and maybe even drought is more of an immediate problem. There are things we can do in the meantime to help the creatureswho live in the capital and like to be nearby water. Using water runoff from your roof gutter is an easy way to fill a pond, and will keep any frogs in your neighbourhood as happy as Larry. How about using the drip tray from your water cooler to top up this supply? Or maybe even helping out by putting out one of our fantastic pet water dispensers for the wildlife in your garden? In a time where carbon footprints are stomping all over the place, we at The Water Delivery Company feel it’s definitely important to do our bit to keep our city as green as possible.

Water Coolers take to the Chicago stage

It’s finally happened- a satirical musical has been penned about the life and times of a water cooler (or rather those who gather around it on a daily basis for idle chitchat and gossip- of which most of us are one too, I feel), and is being performed at the Lakeshore Theatre in Chicago. In the words of the producers, “The Water Coolers: An Office Musical” is a comedy about trying to balance it all, something I’m sure many of us can relate to.
The critics, however, don’t necessarily agree. Chris Jones asks if, after a hard day at work, “Do you then want to head to the theater and pay good money to relive on your own time the existential humiliation of office life?”. Fair point, we cry. Personally, after leaving the office, where there are in fact (funnily enough) many water coolers knocking around, I prefer to either sit with my feet up in front of something wonderfully escapist and non-water related, or indulge in other forms of recreation which do not remind me of the place I spend my working hours. Even though it is hoped by the creative directors that this production will be a milestone in establishing an unusual and innovative programme for the theatre, it has been noted that their usual audience is in fact a little younger than the usual ‘water cooler’ crowd, raising doubts that this show will raise the theatre’s profile and really make a mark in the audience’s minds, encouraging them to come back time and time again. A “nice but forgettable” look at office life, maybe we shouldn’t book our tickets to the Windy City just yet, but if you’re gagging for a bit of drama surrounding your water cooler, check out what we found (see iserted image). Something quite special, we’re sure you’ll agree.
The show runs until October 24th 2009.
