Recently there was a national survey that revealed that of all of the cities in the UK Swindon’s residents were most conscious of the water they use. Water coolers are a big part of that as they don’t require consumers to wait for water to cool before pouring a glass to drink as water is instantaneously cooled.

The survey was made so the results would be launched at the same time as Waterwise, the first virtual water efficient town, by Thames Water. Of the surveyed Swindon residents 100% answered that they would feel guilty about wasting water and consciously avoid wasting water in their home on the survey. This is great as the town is quickly growing while the two rivers that they get their water from, Kennet and Thames, are not.

Thames Water has offered the residents of Swindon a rare and free opportunity to have one of their water regulation approved plumbers visit their home and fit water-saving devices. Already over 1,000 residents have taken advantage of this wonderful opportunity and Thames Water has already scheduled over 10,000 for next year. This is especially necessary as even though the residents of this thriving town are very conscious, they are too many for the dwindling rivers that they get their water from.

Another great idea for residents in Swindon, and everyone else, would be to install water coolers in their home and office to ensure that not a drop is wasted.

Being in the United Kingdom where it rains, let’s face it, all the time, we’re not very careful with our water supply as we think it will never run out. However, recent reports show that more than a billion litres of drinking water are lost every day in Scotland through leaks. Apparently the country’s waste water rate was running at 45%.

The figure has been blamed on poor water mains which have not had the attention they require (some of the pipelines date back to the 19th century) and have subsequently fallen under par. Something that we can not afford have happen as Scottish homes and businesses use on average around 2.5 billion litres of water every day. Imagine how much is leaking out and being wasted? According to the figures that would mean almost 1 billion litres would be lost before the water reached people.

Apparently Scottish Water will be spending £1.8bn on a programme to improve all its services. A spokeswoman said “There is leakages and there is water going out and what we are left with is a network which suffered from a long time of underinvestment. We are currently making an assessment across Scotland of our water mains.” she said.

So with that much water being lost every day at the fault of pipelines and water mains, it’s even more important to ensure you do all you can to minimise water wastage at home. There are simple things you can do to stop water waste. Something as easy as turning the tap off while you brush your teeth or waiting until you have a full load of washing before you put a load in the washing machine. Another big one is to check your water coolers in the home if you have any and ensure they are not leaking anywhere.

Usually if there’s a leak it’s to do with something not being plugged in or screwed in correctly so have a quick look around the cooler for any signs of that and if you can’t find anything except leaking water then it’s probably best to call someone who can come out and fix it for you. The earlier the better. If you try to cut back on water use around the home every little bit will help. The Water Delivery can help with a leaky cooler, feel free to contact us on 0845 006 3309 or drop us an email on contact@thewaterdeliverycompany.com

According to studies childhood obesity has become so serious it is now a public health concern. Children are becoming less active and eating more, which certainly doesn’t make for a healthy lifestyle. There are many damaging effects obesity can have on children, the first ones to show are usually emotional. Being the fat kid at school is never good for one’s self esteem.

They get picked last on sports teams and are usually bullied by the other children beacuse of their weight. The damage that’s been done in the school days will usually stay with the child for life. However it’s not just the emotional scarring a child will need to deal with, there are many more conditions that will follow later in life if obesity is not tackled in the younger days. These include some very dangerous illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease and even cancer. Nipping childhood obesity in the bud in the early stages will help that child develop without the emotional and physical problems they would have had to deal with had their obesity continued past puberty.

So how can you ensure your child doesn’t end up as another obesity statistic? The first thing to do is ensure they are educated on what good and bad foods are. They need to know that cake will make you fat and carrots won’t. But make sure you don’t deprive them of all sweeties, they are still children afterall, but simply emphasise they can have those sort of foods on ocassion as a special treat not everyday. Most importantly you need to encourage them to drink plenty of water.

Water is vital to any growing body, however it’s particularly beneficial for children’s growing bodies. So encourage water intake over fizzy drinks such as Coke or Lemonade, this will also help cut their sugar intake in half. Fizzy drinks are ridden with sugar and are extremely bad for teeth. If you can get your child drinking nothing but milk and water you will save a bundle on dentist bills!

Having water coolers in your home will certainly assist you in the battle between water and fizzy drinks. With the home water cooler there children will be more interested in getting water out of it rather than heading to the fridge. So if you’d like to keep your kids healthy, contact us now on 0845 006 3309 or send us an email on contact@thewaterdeliverycompany.com and we’ll be happy to discuss your options and if need be we’ll over in a jiffy to install your water cooler.

When deciding upon a water cooler that’s right for you there are a lot of things to consider. If you are looking for a water cooler for your home, you want it to be mess free, hassle free and of course easy to maintain and safe for your little ones to use. There are renting and purchasing options available, so it’s important to decide whether you think you’ll be needing the cooler short or long term. You might be moving in the near future so perhaps in that case you might like to look at your rental options. On the other hand, you might have just bought your dream home and would like to purchase a water cooler for the kitchen.

Then there’s the bottled water cooler versus bottleless water coolers avenue to venture down. The long term benefits of a bottleless (or more commonly known as plumbed in water coolers) water cooler include cost benefits and environmental benefits as you will not need to continue purchasing bottles of water as the cooler will be plumbed in to your existing water supply, which also means you will not need to drop any bottles off to be recycled either. Together, these benefits alone suggest it might be more beneficial for you to have a bottleless water cooler in your home. In some cases, where the plumbing is tricky, a bottled water cooler will do the job just fine. It will still provide your family with safe to drink, healthy, purified drinking water at an affordable price.

Deciding on a water cooler for a school or workplace? Then you need to take into consideration a few factors. For schools, you need to pick a water cooler that the children can access easily. So you may need to go for a shorter, smaller model so that the children can reach the fountain without having to get a chair to stand on.

When choosing a water cooler for the workplace, you need to ask whether you want hot and cold options incase people want to make coffee and tea or whether you want to keep the water cooler purely for drinking water and have your staff go to the kitchen to make their hot drinks.

If you are deciding on what sort of water cooler to rent or purchase, please call us here at The Water Delivery Company and we will do out best to help you make the right choice. We can be contacted on 0845 006 3309 or you can email us on contact@thewaterdeliverycompany.com

Owning a water cooler makes sense- it creates a point of interest in the home, allows the water cooler vendor to have frequent access to chilled and squeaky clean water, and can boast that it’s more ethically sound than continually buying bottles of water from the supermarket.

On the other hand, launching a campaign which persuades people to buy a particular brand of bottled water based on the obvious and heavily laboured argument that drinking water is- shock, horror- good for you, makes no sense at all. The Volvic Challenge is just plain silly, not to mention annoying.
We all know the golden rules of leading a healthy lifestyle; drink plenty of water- check, eat a balanced diet- check, and do plenty of exercise- check. It’s been hammered into us so persistently, that it’s become a sort of leading mantra of the 21st century. So why does Volvic think we won’t notice if it dresses up the same principles in a neat little Volvic Challenge package and passes it off as a new and ground-breaking idea? Well, we have noticed.

The commercial has even made the cut on The Worst TV Adverts website. One blogger writes, To call drinking water every day for two weeks a challenge, is beyond patronising. So there you are. Perhaps we should all boycott Volvic and get our water from other, more environmentally sound sources… like water coolers.

This topic is of particular interest to the Water Delivery Company and its sister company, the Water Cooler Company because it brings to the fore the importance of keeping hydrated. Knowing your sweat rate will also be able to give you a better idea of how much water you should be drinking, which means you’ll know how often to visit the water cooler.
Sweating is necessary to regulate our body temperatures in warm or hot weather, or when exercising, in fact if we didn’t sweat, we’d die. According to the Embarrassing Bodies Website “we lose over a litre of sweat a day and have an average of 2.6 million sweat glands in our skin to aid that process. However, around 1% of the population sweats excessively at times when they are neither hot nor exercising”. This condition is known as hyperhidrosis, and sufferers can lose up to four times the average amount of sweat a day! That’s a lot of fluid.
However much you sweat, it’s vital to keep your hydration levels exactly right. Both drinking too much, or not drinking enough water can lead to severe medical complications, and in this country, it’s the latter that is the most common problem. Having a water cooler in the home could make all the difference, and with the huge range on offer, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

We do still have a home water cooler base across London and over the next two years this is an area we are further targetting. If you want to see our first online effort at the home water cooler market please look at www.aquome.com – don’t hold it against us! In July 2009 we launched HomeWaterCoolers.co.uk as the UK’s first dedicated website to the home water cooler market.

One of the first attempts to find a low cost entry model for residential customers was the ceramic dispenser shown to the left. We still have hundreds of customers who have these ceramic dispensers in the home, but they do have their drawbacks. Notably the fact that the dispenser does not actively chill the water. Over the years we have found that one of the key initial motivations for a home water cooler is chilled water for the summer months – as the weather gets hotter, unfortunately the water in the ceramic can heat up as well.

However over the years we have asked our customers for the main reasons they have a home water cooler and water delivery service and have found them to be as follows

Ease - No more carrying water back from the supermarket

Provenance - Assurance of where the spring water has come and that it has been recently bottled

Value - Purchasing water in 19 litre or 12 litre bottles is cheaper than purchasing smaller pack bottles from the supermarket

Recycling - After each bottle is finished we collect it, industrially clean it and then reuse it. In comparison with small pack plastic bottles our supply chain is remarkably environmenally friendly.

This range of options is definitely important for our home customers and we are hoping in coming months to further advertise our services to home customers in London. Lastly our range of water coolers now includes some great looking stainless steel models which would fit into the most modern of kitchens.
